White women gained the right to vote when the 19th Amendment was ratified on August 18th, 1920. Black women didn’t gain the right to vote until the Voting Rights Act was signed into law on August 6th, 1965. 

And on September 24th, 2024, two things happened. (Well, a lot of things happened on September 24th, 2024. But two things happened that, when juxtaposed, make me want to embody some combination of the shocked face emoji, the cursing face emoji, and the facepalm emoji.)

On September 24th, 2024, I went to see Suffs,  a show on Broadway about the Women’s Suffrage movement with a couple of bada** women I have the good fortune of calling my new friends and people I plan to change the world with (More on that later). The show is 10/10, highly recommend. Bring tissues. Prepare to leave feeling like you're ready to take on the world.

And on September 24th, 2024, CNN reported on a new poll showing that white women are currently split 50% Trump to 47% Harris. Yikes emoji. Vomit emoji. Run into a busy street emoji. (Just kidding, that emoji inexplicably doesn’t exist).
