In the US House races, all incumbents managed to keep their seats with Sheri Biggs becoming only the second woman to represent South Carolina in the House as she represents the 3rd District taking over for outgoing Representative Jeff Duncan. The South Carolina House delegation still stands at 6 Republicans and 1 Democrat.
Republicans managed to keep their supermajority in the South Carolina State House and ensure a supermajority in the Senate.
Here are the results from the key races across the state. All results are as of 8:45 a.m. on November 6.
SC-01: Nancy Mace vs Michael Moore
Winner: Nancy Mace
Nancy Mace won re-election for a third term in the US House of Representatives by a comfortable margin.
Mace finished with 58.37% of the vote to Democrat Michael Moore’s 41.46% of the vote.
SC-04: Kathryn Harvey vs William Timmons
Winner: William Timmons
In what was expected to be a close race, incumbent Republican representative William Timmons won re-election in a landslide.
Timmons defeated Democratic challenger Kathryn Harvey 59.75% to 37.22%.
SD-26: Jason Guerry vs Russell Ott
Winner: Russell Ott
In what was considered to be the most competitive state senate race, Democrat Russell Ott eked out a win over Republican Jason Guerry.
Ott got 54.64% of the vote to Guerry’s 45.22% of the vote in the race to succeed longtime Democratic senator Nikki Setzler.
SD-35: Jeffrey Graham vs Mike Jones
Winner: Jeffrey Graham
Democratic candidate Jeffrey Graham ensured that SD-35 remained in the Democrat’s hand by successfully fending off Republican challenger Mike Jones.
Graham finished with 52.08% of the vote and Jones finished with 47.76% of the vote in the race to replace Democratic state senator Thomas McElveen.
SD-29: JD Chaplin vs Gerald Malloy
Winner: JD Chaplin
Incumbent Democratic Senator Gerald Malloy narrowly lost re-election to Republican challenger JD Chaplin.
Malloy got 49.66% of the vote and Chaplin got 50.24% of the vote.
Because there is less than a 1% margin between the two candidates, the race will go to an automatic recount, per SC state election laws.
SD-17: Mike Fanning vs Everett Stubbs
Winner: Everett Stubbs
Republican Everett Stubbs narrowly defeated incumbent Democratic state senator Mike Fanning by a margin of 32 votes getting 27,914 votes to Fanning’s 27,882 votes
Because the election is so close, it will be going to an automatic recount.
SD-39: Tom Fernandez vs Vernon Stephens
Winner: Tom Fernandez
Republican challenger Tom Fernandez beat incumbent Democratic senator Vernon Stephens by a small margin.
Fernandez got 50.96% of the vote while Stephens got 48.79% of the vote.
SD-36: Kevin Johnson vs Jeff Zell
Winner: Jeff Zell
Incumbent Democratic senator Kevin Johnson lost re-election to Republican challenger Jeff Zell by a narrow margin.
Johnson garnered 49..28% of the vote and Zell finished with 50.60% of the vote.
HD-75: Heather Bauer vs Kirkman Finlay
Winner: Heather Bauer
Incumbent Democratic representative Heather Bauer fended off another challenge from Republican Kirkman Finlay who Bauer originally defeated two years ago during the 2022 midterms.
Bauer got 53.03% of the vote while Finlay finished 46.88% of the vote.
HD-110: John Moffett vs Tom Hartnett
Winner: Tom Hartnett
Republican incumbent Tom Hartnett held on to his seat in what was seen as a possible pickup for the Democrats.
Hartnett finished with 55.96% of the vote and Moffett finished with 43.96%.
HD-116: Charlie Murray vs James Teeple
Winner: James Teeple
Republican candidate James Teeple succeeded in keeping HD-116 red in a district that up until recently was considered a Democratic stronghold.
Teeple finished with 51.20% of the vote while Democratic candidate Charlie Murray finished with 48.76% of the vote.
