Report: SC State Representative Under Federal Investigation for Child Exploitation
RJ May, the former vice chair of the South Carolina Freedom Caucus, is currently the subject of a federal investigation for “child exploitation,” specifically allegations tied to child sex abuse, according to FITS News.
According to sources familiar with the situation, May’s home was searched by local and federal agents yesterday morning after an inquiry was made to the Department of Homeland Security.
Unspecified files and electronics were seized yesterday as part of the raid and at least one witness is reportedly cooperating. Those involved in the investigation said there was enough information to lawfully obtain a search warrant.
The DHS investigation unit, HSI, was accompanied by South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents.
According to HSI’s website, one of their primary goals is to investigate and stop child exploitation crimes including pornography, sexual abuse, and human trafficking.
Details were not immediately available and RJ May did not respond to comment requests, according to FITS News.
May has yet to be taken into police custody or charged with any crime at the time of this writing.
