Here I am writing this article on Beyonce's internet, and all I can think about is her hit song with Shakira, “Beautiful Liar.” Here are some of the lyrics to remind you:
Let's not start a fight
(Ay) it's not worth the drama
For a beautiful liar
(Oh) can't we laugh about it?
(Oh) it's not worth our time
(Oh) we can live without him
Just a beautiful liar
What a great song right? But what's even more awesome about the song lyrics is how it perfectly sums up the debate between the VP candidates last night of JD Vance and Governor Tim Walz. Let me first acknowledge the good. Y’all, we haven't seen a civil debate in so long and I must be honest, I was surprised in a good way. That was a debate that I would have honestly felt good watching with my 11-year-old so that we could discuss and learn about the issues of America. The rhetoric was not what we have grown so accustomed to in the era of Donald Trump. I believe now that if enough people feel the way that I did last night, the good people of this country will demand that all future debates be done in that manner. Now for the bad.
“Margaret, the rules were that you were not going to fact check and since you’re fact-checking me, I think it’s important to say what’s actually going on.” JD Vance
In other words, JD Vance wanted to be a “Beautiful Liar” and offer his beautiful lies in peace without any pushback. No matter how civil that debate was, no matter how much each man agreed with the other, this one quote summed it all up perfectly. One man was lying and basically said so and the other man was graciously telling the truth. Furthermore, Governor Walz even stated that sometimes he misspeaks, says the wrong things, and acknowledges it. Real leaders acknowledge when they make mistakes but Beautiful Liars just attempt to make their false claims sound believable with big words and misdirection.
So what does this mean for all of us? Well, what we can say is that after last night, we can assume that what we heard in the beginning, that JD Vance is the future of the GOP, is absolutely true. He was able to lie so smoothly that it's like a Donald Trump 2.0. In a time like this when artificial intelligence is making it increasingly difficult to tell what is fact and what is fiction, JD Vance was able to sound extremely convincing to millions of Americans. Only people who are really dialed into what is happening in American politics would be able to decipher the beautiful lies that were spewed on stage.
Governor Walz is still America's dad! We still love him and we love him even more for his authenticity and honesty. If the Republican party can accomplish that goal at some point soon, then America may be on its way to a more unified nation. Republicans, my advice to you is to take JD Vance's ability to communicate and marry it with an honest person and then you have hit the jackpot, but for now, I will continue singing Beautiful Liar!
It's always the 'liar' card Dems play. You can't talk policy (and neither can Kamala) AND she don't get a free pass because she wasn't president. She is even MORE radical the Joe. That's why the Dems loved her so much in the primary. Keep talking smack, 'democracy' and truth-telling. When abortion, climate and LBGTQ+ rights are the top issues, for the people that have seen 4 years of this CLOWN SHOW and can't afford groceries--you've lost.
