It's Back-to-School Season in America

As kids head back to school, we must reject Trump’s dystopian vision for their future

Ahh the smell of freshly sharpened pencils, the sound of anxious and excited children in the halls, and the existential threat our nation’s children face: a Trump-Vance victory and implementation of Project 2025.

I am a proud Mom of three public school students, a proud Daughter of a teacher, a pediatrician, and a full-time child advocate. I am deeply invested in ensuring every child in America has the opportunity to grow into the healthiest and happiest version of themselves. 

That goal was hard enough to achieve in the “politicians don’t prioritize kids” era. But now that we have entered the “Republicans use kids as expendable pawns in their political games” era, the task at hand feels almost impossible. Or at least it felt almost impossible about 3 weeks ago when a second Trump term felt like a foregone conclusion.
