In Case You Weren't Sure, Misogyny is Alive and Well in America
No amount of success can save you from the hideous comments made about you simply because you are a woman.
It’s something you can expect and prepare for yet still be repulsed by when you see it: pure, unadulterated misogyny. Based on 2016, we all had a pretty good idea of what to expect this time around with a female Democratic nominee for President of the United States; adding to it that she is a woman of color, we expected it to be even worse. On debate night, it came rearing its ugly head.
I typically come from the camp of “extinguishing the fire by not giving it any oxygen.” However, I also believe that refusing to call out what we saw in front of our own eyes permits the acts to continue. We must exemplify them, especially when they are as heinous as some of what we saw unfold last night.
