GOP State Rep. Matt Leber’s Wife Files for Charleston County School Board
She shares her husband’s extremist views.
Michele Leber, the wife of State Representative Matt Leber, who is currently running as the Republican nominee for SC Senate District 41, announced yesterday that she is running for Charleston County School Board. And she appears to share the same extremist views as her husband, who recently defeated State Senator Sandy Senn in a Republican primary.
Mrs. Leber, whose husband has been embroiled in many controversies, has parroted many controversial far-right talking points and false claims on her social media accounts.
#1: Climate Change is Propaganda
Earlier this year, she posted on Instagram complaining that the SC Ready practice test booklets included “climate change propaganda.”
Several studies have shown that the Earth’s temperature is warming year after year.
Another key indicator of climate change is the difference in animal migration patterns. Birds are having earlier migration times, plants are beginning to bloom earlier in the spring and glaciers are melting at a record pace.
#2: GSA Clubs Fry Students Brains
Leber also spoke out on Instagram about Lucy Beckham High School having a Gender-Sexuality Alliance Club.
Leber denounced the club and said that they were “frying kids' brains by encouraging them to think about sex.” She also said instead of the school having a Gender-Sexuality Alliance that there should instead be a “I want to learn how to appreciate good art and philosophy and also learn basic life skills’ club which would encourage good and beautiful and virtuous things.”
Gay-Straight Alliance clubs do not discuss sex but rather are a “youth-led school or community-based groups organized for the purpose of supporting LGBTQ+ youth and straight allies through discussion, action, friendship, and advocacy,” according to Healthy Teen Network.
These clubs have many benefits for LGBTQ+ students including increasing support among faculty and staff at their schools, a decrease in the use of anti-gay slurs and bullying and improving LGBTQ+ students’ mental health.
#3: Vaccines Are Dangerous
Leber also promoted an anti-vaccine post on her Facebook questioning how eight shots were okay for babies when they can only try one food at a time.
All children attending South Carolina public schools are required to be vaccinated, barring certain medical and religious exemptions, in order to attend any childcare facility or schools, according to state law.
#4: Joe Biden Did Not Win the 2020 Election
Leber posted on her Instagram a picture of Joe Biden in a children’s textbook from CCSD saying that he is the 46th President of the United States. She captioned the picture “Look at the lies they are teaching at CCSC” (sic).
The 2020 election was officially certified by Congress on Jan. 7, 2021 and Joe Biden was officially sworn in as the 46th president on Jan. 20, 2021.
There is no evidence to suggest election fraud or that the 2020 election was stolen.
#5: The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is Socialism
On Instagram, Mrs. Leber posted a picture of a handout from one of her children’s classes that was a simplified version of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Leber called the document a “fundamentally socialist document, very much at odds with our US Constitution”
She also claimed that district teachers were “largely indoctrinated in Marxism at their education schools” which is why they preferred teaching the UDHR over the US Bill of Rights.
Many of the freedoms mentioned in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are guaranteed in the Bill of Rights, including the right to not be tortured (8th Amendment), right to trial (6th Amendment), innocent until proven guilty (5th Amendment), the right to property that cannot be seized without a reason (4th Amendment) and the right to publicly and peacefully assemble (1st Amendment).
Other rights mentioned in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that are also enshrined in the US Constitution including the right to not be enslaved (13th Amendment) and the right to vote for all (15th, 23rd, 24th and 26th Amendments).
The election for Charleston School Board is on November 5, 2024. Leber faces off against incumbent Daron Lee Calhoun II.
Amazing that they're both just - beaming in the pic with this article!
I still can't reconcile how people like this (unless they're mentally ill),can reconcile the overt, destructive, manipulative lies that they tell, and then just go about their lives!
I sometimes wonder if and hope - that late at night right before they go to sleep and their subconscious mind/dream-state starts to kick in - this behavior starts to haunt even them...
What the heck is going on in Charleston County and the Lowcountry? Is Columbia the only speck of moderation left in the state?
