Freedom Caucus Suspends RJ May Amid Federal Probe
State Rep. RJ May, a founder of South Carolina’s Freedom Caucus, has been suspended from the group following a federal investigation into his activities. Homeland Security agents searched May’s home in August, seizing electronics, with prosecutors hinting at potential charges. Caucus chairman Jordan Pace confirmed the suspension but declined to detail the reasons. May, meanwhile, maintains his focus on representing District 88.
Historic Clemency for Two South Carolinians
In a groundbreaking act of clemency, President Joe Biden pardoned 39 individuals nationwide, including two South Carolina women, Denita Nicole Parker of Gaffney and Shawnte Dorothea Williams of Columbia. Both women, convicted of non-violent offenses in their youth, have since become active contributors to their communities. Parker is known for her work feeding families and aiding the homeless, while Williams supports her church's food pantry and local outreach. The president’s move marks the largest single-day clemency action in modern U.S. history, signaling a focus on second chances and restorative justice.

Columbia’s Rail Traffic Fix Gains Momentum
A long-awaited solution to Columbia's rail congestion is moving closer to reality. Officials are narrowing design options to separate Assembly Street from train crossings near major city hubs. With $75 million secured and federal grants in sight, the estimated $300 million project is progressing, though no construction timeline has been set. Public input is ongoing, with a final design expected this spring. The project aims to alleviate traffic, improve pedestrian safety, and preserve neighborhood character.

Boeing’s $1 Billion Bet on Charleston
Boeing announced a $1 billion investment to expand its North Charleston operations, adding 500 jobs by 2027. The upgrades will enhance production of the 787 Dreamliner, solidifying South Carolina's status as an aerospace leader. Governor Henry McMaster lauded the move as a testament to the state’s workforce and pro-business environment.
