Florida Congressman Cory Mills to Headline SC GOP Silver Elephant Event

The South Carolina State Republican Party announced earlier this week that Florida Congressional Representative Cory Mills would headline this year’s Silver Elephant Gala. 

The annual occasion is the party’s biggest event and has previously featured notable Republicans including former president Donald Trump, former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy and Texas Senator Ted Cruz. 

Mills has attracted controversy for claiming that the 2020 election was stolen and rigged for Joe Biden. He also attended a Trump “Stop the Steal” rally where he told attendees at the Dallas rally “Let us be that patriot who's not scared to fight — and let us say, 'Here am I, send me.'"

During his campaign, it was revealed by Politico that Mills sold tear gas that was used to harm Black Lives Matter protesters. 

While in Congress, Mills started his inaugural term by handing out 40-millimeter grenades with a GOP elephant to his colleagues. 

He has also voted to impeach President Joe Biden for “high crimes and misdemeanors”,  Attorney General Merrick Garland for “facilitating the weaponization and politicization of the United States justice system against the American people,” FBI Director Christopher Wray for “facilitating the development of a Federal police force to intimidate, harass, and entrap American citizens that are deemed enemies of the Biden regime” and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas for “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

Mills also voted for the SAVE Act which would prohibit non-American citizens from voting in federal elections even though non-citizens are already prevented from voting in these elections by federal law

Mills released a statement on Twitter after the bill’s passage claiming that it would “preserve the integrity of our elections.” He continued in the statement saying it “simply requires proof of citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections and giving states access to existing federal databases to remove non-citizens from their voter registration rolls. Democrats claim that the SAVE Act will "suppress the votes of millions." They must be referring to the millions of illegal immigrants President Biden has allowed into the

country, that amounts to over 10 million on his watch.”

Mills spread a false rumor on Twitter denouncing Vice President Kamala Harris’ policy on the Southern border. In the statement, Mills claimed that “the Biden-Harris admin released ISIS-linked individuals into our country”

State Republican Party Chairman Drew McKissick released a statement announcing Mills’ attendance at the event. 

“Congressman Mills has been an avid defender of our country's freedoms long before he became a member of the U.S. Congress. He's stood in the gap, time and time again, to protect and help Americans who've been left behind due to the failures of the Biden/Harris administration," he said in the statement.

Mills will be the second Florida representative to visit South Carolina after it was announced that Congressmen Byron Donalds will headline fellow Congressmen Russell Fry’s “Freedom Fry”.
